Radio Frequency Rhizotomy
A Radio Frequency Rhizotomy, otherwise known as a Radio Frequency Ablation, is a procedure used to treat chronic neck, back, shoulder, and knee pain. Using radiofrequency energy waves, heat is generated to target specific nerves. Once those nerves are heated to a specific temperature, they are unable to send pain signals in that body area.
This procedure uses needles strategically placed in areas of the spine where pain is located, then the radiofrequency energy is dispersed to the nerves. X-ray guidance is used to assist the physician during treatment. The patient will be under a local anesthetic and light sedation.
While not a permanent solution, this treatment can provide immense pain relief for extended periods of time.
